City of Fredericton

Map

Description

The City of Fredericton is on a bend in the St. John/Wolostoq River below the Mactaquac Dam. The river flows around many gravel and sand islands before reaching the city. The Nashwaak River and the Nashwaaksis Stream also flow into Fredericton from the north. They meet the St. John/Wolostoq River in the city.

Kaine Creek and Barker's Island are routes in the mouth of the Nashwaak River to explore. There are several places to access the islands upriver from Fredericton. Our favorite is the boat launch at the end of the Woodstock Road that can be used to access Nevers Island. Killarney Lake is a park in the city that is surrounded by hiking trails. It has a beach and is big enough for a small paddle.

For a different type of adventure, check out Wolastoq Adventures. They have rentals for clear bottomed kayaks and at night they wrap the boats in colorful led lights.
