Description

Start by going under the bridge and continuing along the shore on the right. You will pass by a residential area around a bend in the stream. Once around the bend the shoreline becomes wooded on either side. At this point you are following along the Nackawic golf course on the right.

An eagles nest at the top of a large white pine tree on Nackawic Stream

You will come to another bend in the stream to the left as the channel narrows in. On the point is a shallow grassy area. The channel widens out again for a stretch. Make sure you look for eagles in the trees. On my visit I didn't see any but there was a large nest at the top of one of the large white pines. Before the channel narrows in again you will come to a shallow area on the right with an inlet. This is a great place for ducks and other animals to hang out.

Picnic site on a large granite outcrop in Nackawic Stream

The channel narrows in again and after a short distance you will start to see rocky outcrops on the right. The first one is a large, rounded granite rock that is surrounded by a few large white pine. There is a campsite with a picnic table on the rock. It looks quite deep here and I have heard it is a great place to take a swim. My plan is to return and try it out. There are some steeper cliffs before you come to where the Nackawic Stream flows into the head pond. The stream is usually shallow and quite rocky so turn here and return the way you came.

Directions

For directions to Nackawic go to the Nackawic page.

Continue past the Arena in Nackawic. The road climbs a small hill and soon comes out to a junction. Turn right at the junction, go down the hill and cross Nackawic Bridge. On the other side of the bridge turn right into a small gravel area next to the bridge. Be careful if other cars or pulp trucks are behind you. Park here and access the river by dropping your boat over about a five foot drop to the water below. If this access is too difficult you can launch at the dock in Nackawic and combine with the Nackawic to Nackawic Bridge Route for an even bigger adventure.
